Hetero-Genius (A poem by Phanuel Ayelum)

I’m finally me.

It’s finally clear.

I will love the misfit I am

With no fear.

I am now so good at being me;

That I fit in well with my mind.

For once we are one,

I feel so connected inside.

So good at being the odd one out;

It doesn’t even feel odd anymore.

So good at being a misfit,

This role best fits me after all.

So used to being left,

That it now feels right.

So used to not speaking,

It’s always been easier to write.

So used to feeling different;

The feeling is now the same.

So used to being awkward,

It’s hard wired on my brain.

So used to being broken,

It now feels like a fix.

So used to being the one entity-

That just doesn’t mix.
