A true writer (A poem by Phanuel Ayelum)

To me-

it’s more than words on a screen,

I guess nothing is as it seems.

I like to spell the word “word”

With an “l”

So it reads “world”-

and I can think of the world,

As being a fine collection of words-

And I can think of words

As being the substance of the world;

Believing that our existence

Is the product of wordsmith.

A true writer;

Brings me closer to this realization,

Interacts with my imagination,

In a way that nothing else does.

A true writer;

makes me view the world-

straight through their words.

I haven’t the doubt that writing is art.

Being human;

A true writer has the right to live-

Just as much as they have to

Write to live.

A true writer;

Exists in the blank spaces of the work they write-

Read closely, this is more than black and white.

To me,

It’s more than words on a screen.

To me

it’s more than it seems.

Being a true writer-

Fills my hopes and dreams.
